| The case of a budding Yoruba actor, who was last Friday hacked to death and burnt by some youths in Lanlate, a town in Ibarapa East local government area of Oyo state is currently causing heightened tension in the area, and unless the law takes it place, it may degenerate into a communal clash between the town and their neighbors, Eruwa, the headquarters of the local government. |
Last Friday, October 11, 2018, Sola Adiekola was gruesomely killed by some identified youths who carried out jungle justice on him.
According to eye witnesses who spoke with CityScoop, he was alleged to have stolen. It was during the daylight, so it was shocking that they did not hand him over to the police after he arrested.
The late Sola's accusers, who later turned his murderers we were told alleged him of other sins, including sleeping with the wife of one of them.
Reports say the victim was trailed and chased from Lanlate by his killers and after overpowering him, they took him back to the border between Lanlate and Eruwa and butchered him to death. They later set his body ablaze.
Sola, an indigene of Eruwa was a bidding drama practitioner and a vulcanizer. He sometimes does commercial motorcycle (Okada) transport business part-time before his murder. He was well known in both Lanlate and Eruwa, which made it more difficult to phantom what his killers were up to.
CityScoop's account even had it that the late Sola was set ablaze after being killed in the presence of his father. The father was also threatened to be set ablaze by the attackers, we were told.
Meanwhile, we have heard that the police are currently investigating the case, although no official statement has been obtained from the Oyo State Police command as at the time of filing this report.
What the people of Eruwa are however clamoring for right now is for justice to take its course. They want the perpetrators apprehended and prosecuted.
Eruwa and Lanlate have had history of soft communal disturbances in the past and this particular case if not well handled, does not portend a good omen for the peace both communities have enjoyed I recent years.
