Former Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, who until now was a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Chief Timi Alaibe, on Friday defected to the Peoples Democratic Party.
Alaibe reportedly defected with over 6,000 supporters.
Other APC chieftains in the state who left the party alongside the ex-NDDC boss are: former federal lawmakers, Michael Epengule and Nelson Belief; B.Z. Onniye; Ebamua Empere; a former Secretary to the Bayelsa State Government, Gideon Ekeuwei; a former Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Chief Kemi Prefa, among others.
Receiving Alaibe in the Government House, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, Governor Seriake Dickson said the defection of the former NDDC MD and his followers did not only give credence to the supremacy of the PDP but also signified the end of the APC in the state.
In his remarks, Alaibe described the PDP as the party of the Ijaw people, saying since all political positions he had held were facilitated by the PDP, it informed his decision to leave the “wilderness.”
