| Popular socialite and politician, Otunba Rotimi Ajanaku has dumped his boss of the past few years, Governor Abiola Ajimobi after what his supporters termed as 'unfair treatment' he got from the man he has been serving so much for a while now. |
Ajanaku did all he could to secure APC House of Reps ticket for Ibadan Northwest/Southwest constituency in the 2019 elections, but the Governor made his choice, picking the son of one of his best friends (Akin Fijabi), Hon. Saheed Fijabi (who has gotten the ticket for a 3rd term).
Ajanaku has always been at loggerheads with Saheed Fijabi over securing party ticket for that same constituency since 2011. They have both faced each other at primary elections since then. We heard Ajanaku was so close to it this time, but other factors played in, with the Governor's influence being one of them. There were reports that the Governor, at the flagoff of the APC Governorship campaign in Ibadan earlier this week said openly that there was no way he could have picked Ajanaku over Fijabi's son because of the weight his father carries in Ibadan politics.
Ajanaku however seems to be prepared to pursue his ambition to the limit this time, by ensuring he has his name on the ballot come February 16, 2019. He has pitched his tenth with Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), which has former Oyo Governor, Rashidi Ladoja as his chief promoter.
He visited Ladoja in his Ibadan home today and has good words to say about his new political leader in Oyo State.
Earlier in the week, Ajanaku addressed the media, where he spoke on his new political moves. He said that the need to save his political career made him dump the APC for ZLP.
He claimed that he clearly defeated Saheed Fijabi in the APC primaries, alleging that “over 21 votes were added in favour of the lawmaker by Mr Demola Seriki-led Electoral committee that supervised the primaries held on October 4, 2018.” "I must save my political career from extinction. As an accomplished entrepreneur, my livelihood is not attached to politics, but I must consider the plight of my loyalists", he said.
