A Retired Nursing Matron, Chief Theresa Laduntan Oyekanmi has become the 14th Iyalode of Ibadanland, with her installation by the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Adetunji yesterday at his Popoyemoja Palace in Ibadan.
The 86 year old new Iyalode emerged after the demise of the late Iyalode, Alhaja Aminat Abiodun who died on December 8, 2018 at the age of 93,and it is recalled that the Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde recently approved the promotion as Iyalode.
The newly installed Iyalode was the Otun Iyalode of Ibadanland before her elevation.
Iyalode Laduntan Oyekanmi is a descendant of Ladapo family of Abebi Area and Balogun Ibikunle family of Ayeye Area, Ibadan. She trained as a Nurse in England in the 1960s and got married to Prince and lawyer, ‘Diti Oyekanmi from the royal Matanmi Family of Osogbo, Osun State on August 12, 1961.
She retired as a Matron at the University College Hospital(UCH), Ibadan. Her husband, Prince Oyekanmi was a Commissioner in the 1970s in the old Western State and was a cabinet member during the administration of former Military Governor of Oyo State, Major General David M.Jemibewon (Rtd).
Meanwhile dignitaries at the event include the Olubadan of Ibadan land, Oba Saliu Akanmu Adetunji, Chief Olanrewaju Otiti, Chief Mrs Mulikat Ladoja, Chief Mrs Bolanle Awe, and Olori Rasheedat Adetunji among others.
