Ghana & Nigeria Police Wade In, As OB Lulu Briggs' Sons Accuse His Widow, Seinye Of Complicity In Their Dad's Death

Since his demise 7 months ago, the remains of Rivers state-born billionaire, High Chief Olu Benson Lulu-Briggs still lies in a Transition Home in Ghana, just as controversies have continued to rock his family, causing a long delay to his burial.

Briggs, the late Abonema, Rivers State-born oil magnate and the founder and chairman of Moni Pulo Limited, died on December 27, 2018, in Accra, Ghana at age 89.

Almost 8 months after his death, a raging storm has continued to rock his family and up till this moment, it remains unclear when his burial will hold. His widow, Dr. Seinye Lulu- Briggs, who travelled with him to Accra where he breathed his last, has been accused of having a hand in her husband’s death, by some of the sons of the late billionaire, led by Dumo Lulu-Briggs, as well a faction of the family elders.

Meanwhile, the latest development is that the Nigeria Police have waded into the matter, acting on allegations by Dumo and others, by launching an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the High Chief’s death in Accra.

An investigation team led by an assistant commissioner of Police, Mr. Adaku Uche-Anya,  has since been sent to Accra, Ghana, and together with the Ghana Police Criminal Investigation Department (CID) have commenced investigation.

The investigation followed a petition by Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs, the second son of the deceased, to the Inspector-General of Police accusing Seinye, his step-mother, of killing his father among other complaints.

The Ghana police, it was gathered, consequently issued an order for a post mortem on the corpse of the oil mogul whose remain has been deposited at the Transition Home in Accra, Ghana since late December 2018.

We however gathered further that there has been a major disagreement over the choice of the Pathologist to carry out the exercise. While, the police from Nigeria had gone with a pathologist, their Ghanaian counterperts insisted that the widow of the deceased must also have a say in the choice of pathologist, to avoid disagreements over the outcome. The post mortem may be done in the next few days, we reliably gathered.

There has been an aged-long crises within the Late O.B Lulu-Briggs family with Dumo, the wealthy and influential son of the deceased as the lead actor.

In 2003, Dumo and his two brothers –Senibo and Sofiri – took their father, Late Lulu-Briggs, to the Federal High Court to oust him as the Chairman of the company, Moni Pulo Limited, which he founded. They questioned their father’s ability to continue as the chairman of the oil exploration company due to his old age. But the court ruled against them, as the matter was thrown out in 2004 after they failed to establish how their legal rights which they sought to protect, will be affected.

However, it was gathered that the main reason they took that action against their father was because of their stepmom, Dr. Seinye, whom they fear was going to be made the heiress to the Lulu-Briggs’ estate.
