Lagos NURTW Election: Group Alerts Police, DSS Of Plot By Disgruntled Members To Instigate Crisis With Protest

As issues surrounding the emergence of new executives of the Lagos chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) draws close, a group has sent an SOS alert to the Lagos State government, the Nigeria Police and the Department for State Security (DSS) over a plan by some disgruntled members of the union to embark on protests capable of distabilsing the peace of the state. The group said the members behind the plot have planned to start today at the Ikorodu Town Hall. And that the protest is intended to incite and cause public unrest. Read the statement below..

"It has come to our notice that a fraction of NURTW members are (plotting to embark) on a protest, which aim and objectives appear malicious and evil.

The reason for this protest can not be ascertained. We had a peaceful election of the National President few months back (which involves all the 36 state of the the federation) and there was no fracas. So, why (should) the Lagos election turn violent?

We implore all security agencies to be on alert as this protest is intended to incite and cause public unrest. If any aggrieved member has complaints concerning the affairs of the union, the national body is there for them to report to. The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) is also there. And if there is any criminal case, they should report to the law enforcement agencies, instead of causing violence.

We admonish all relevant bodies to rise up this occasion by maintaining law and order".
