Famed for being an artiste without a known face, Lágbájá (pronounced la gba jah) is known for wearing his mask, which according to him he uses as an icon of man's facelessness. Lágbájá is a Yoruba word that means "nobody in particular". It depicts the anonymity of the so-called "common man". The mask and the name symbolize the faceless, the voiceless in the society, particularly in Africa. Even at 60, Lagbaja is not ready to drop this age-long concept.
For some years now, basically for personal reasons, Lagbaja went underground, but he remains active in music. He has also been a Globacom ambassador for many years. In 2017, he released "Sweet Melody" an afro jazz song. In 2015, he released "200 Million Mumu" a song he released to blast former Nigerian President, Olusegun Obasanjo on as a reply to the book written by him.
Lagbaja is now based in Manhattan, New York, USA. He has several hit songs that will remain evergreen, to his credit.
We celebrate him.
