Baba Eto Of Lagos, Chief Folarin Coker Dies 3wks After 97th Birthday



Chief Nathaniel Folarin Coker, popularly known as Baba Eto of Lagos is Dead. He passed on Wednesday night, (three weeks after his 97th birthday) after a brief illness.

A prominent personality and high chief in Lagos who contributed immensely to the development of Lagos State, Coker was a renowned socialite.

The Lagos State Government named the Lagos State Clinic in Alausa after him.

He loved life and enjoyed life to the fullest.

His eldest son, Folarin Coker Jnr, was Commissioner for Tourism under Governor Akinwumi Ambode’s administration. He was later appointed Director General, Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation in March 2017.
Baba Eto would be fondly remembered by many Lagosians for his good nature and for impacting many lives positively.

Details of his burial are yet to be announced by his family.

The late Chief Coker was the pioneer Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information and Strategy, Lagos State in 1968. He died yesterday in Lagos. 

He was born on July 22, 1923. He attended CMS grammar School, Lagos and studied law at Exeter University, England. 

He retired as a permanent secretary in 1978. He is the former Pro-chancellor and chairman of council, University of Port Harcourt, 1993-1997. 

He was a fellow of Nigerian Institute of Management and Vommissions, and the Boys Scout of Nigeria. 

A prominent member of Cathedral Church of Christ, Lagos, where he was Patron of Cathedral Choir and President of cathedral Torch Bearers.
