The wife of Toba Opaleye, late ace broadcaster has died 15 years after losing her husband. She died on Sunday following a long battle against cancer. Biola Toba-Opaleye, a teacher with St Peters College, Olomore in Abeokuta, Ogun State died at the Federal Medical Centre, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta.
Toba Opaleye, a renowned radio broadcaster died on April 26, 2006 at the Eko Hospital in Lagos after a protracted battle with a kidney ailment. The Ogun state government, (then with Otunba Gbenga Daniel) sponsored his treatment abroad for the same ailment but to no avail. He lost the battle upon his return to Nigeria. He was famous for a number of popular radio programs and film productions. Some of his popular productions include Igba nla dogi, Abeni Oni Pangbe, and Aso Esu Beleke -an audio production. He also had a brief stint in politics and attempted to contest the chairmanship of Abeokuta North Local Government.
Toba Opaleye's thriving career of 25 years was cut short at the age of 49, but his works still remain reference points till today in the world of broadcasting in southwest Nigeria.
Late Biola Toba-Opaleye was survived by a mother, two children, Wonu and Tinu Toba-Opaleye. She has been buried today, Tuesday, March 29 according to Christian rites in Abeokuta.
Her death has thrown her family, old colleagues and fans of her late husband into mourning, bringing with it the sad the loss of Toba Opaleye almost 16 years ago back to memories.
