Fake News: How Ajimobi's Daughter, Ajibola Ajayi Got Linda Ikeji Into Trouble

One of the hottest topics trending at the moment is the N25 million damage that an FCT High Court ordered popular blogger, Linda Ikeji to pay as damages to Ajibola Ajayi (2nd daughter of late Governor Abiola Ajimobi) over a defamation of character case. Her blog was also asked to publish a written apology in 3 national publications.

The development is currently unsettling the blogger who has boasted of hiring 100 lawyers to fight against the judgement. She also has heavily criticised the law firm that represented the late Governor's daughter (Olaniwun Ajayi LP), for bringing the case to public knowledge on social media.
Ajibola Ajayi (Nee Abiola Ajimobi), a lawyer herself who was the SA (Legal) to the President, Office of the Vice President, had sued Ms. Linda Ikeji in respect of the article published on her blog, https://t.co/96s6uH3OKc on 15.01.17 and 17.01.17 which cited Mrs. Ajibola Ajayi as having described protesting students of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, as a “generation of mannerless children” in an Instagram post with the username “conceited_csj”.
After the publication in 2017, issued a press statement noting that the Instagram page quoted by Linda Ikeji, ‘conceited_csj’, was not hers. She subsequently, secured the services of a law firm, Olaniwun Ajayi LP, to sue Linda in Suit No. FCT/CV/667/2018. A judgement was delivered on April 12, 2022, where the court held that the publication by Linda Ikeji was “false and malicious”. The Court held that the evidence before it showed that the Defendant knew that the Instagram account with the username “conceited_csj” did not belong to the Ajibola and thereby awarded general and exemplary damages in the sum of N25m and directed Ms. Ikeji to publish a written apology to the Claimant in three National tabloids. The elated law firm that prosecuted the case said it believes that with Judgments like this, media outfits and members of the public will verify sources of their information ahead of publication.
