Fake Army General Arrested In Lagos Gets 7 Years Prison Sentence For N270m Fraud

An Ikeja Special Offences Court in Lagos today sentenced the fake Army General, Bolarinwa Abiodun, whose real name is Hassan Ayinde to seven years in prison for impersonation and N266.5 million fraud. The convict disguised as the Chief Of Army Staff to carry out the N266.5 million fraud.
Abiodun pleaded guilty to an amendment 13-count charge bordering on obtaining money under false pretences and forgery,after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) re-arraigned him on Thursday.

Delivering judgment, Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo, sentenced Abiodun without an option of fine, following his guilty plea.

In May, a compliance officer with First Bank Plc, Chris Ekpe, has unveiled before an Ikeja Special Offences Court, Lagos, the real names of the alleged fake Army General, Bolarinwa Oluwasegun Abiodun as Hassan Kareem Ayinde. The bank official also narrated to court how the alleged fake army General, Bolarinwa Oluwasegun Abiodun, perfected his change of name before he swindled a businessman of about N270m.

He was arrested by operatives of the EFCC in January and his trial commenced in April. Before his arrest, the convict literarily terrorised people in Lagos with his activities especially in the Abule Egba area where he resides. He was moving around with convoys, claiming to be a top military officer and ex security detail of former president, Olusegun Obasanjo.
