Not until he recently made rear appearance at one or two major state functions, Ibadan-based business mogul, Alhaji Daud Akinola (known popularly as D-Damak) has withdrawn a lot from the public. The socialite and philanthropist was badly hit a year ago when he lost his beloved - UK-based younger wife, Alhaja Funke Akinola (popularly known as Lafunky). It was such a low point for the Aare Musulimi (leader of all Muslims) of Yorubaland, Edo and Delta States.
The sudden passage of Alhaja Alimot Funke Akinola, (Lafunky) on October 27, 2021 threw the social circles in Nigeria and the UK into deep mourning. Funke, a businesswoman was described as a pleasant woman loved by many. Report then was that she passed on at around her 40s after a brief illness believed to be complications from high blood pressure.
Many of her friends took to social media to share their grief back then and a few days back, when it was the first anniversary of her death, her memories were celebrated.
After her demise, dignitaries from all over Nigeria took turns to pay special condolence visits to the Chairman of D-Damak Group at his palatial mansion in Ibadan. The late Funke was so dear to the moneybag socialite, and it's evident in how difficult it was for him to deal with her loss. A source revealed that private Islamic prayers were conducted inside D-Damak’s house in Ibadan days back for the soul of his departed sweetheart. D-Damak, took over the Aare Musulimi title in 2015 following the demise of his predecessor, the late Alhaji Arisekola Alao.
