A popular hotelier in Lagos and prominent politician in Oyo state, Jacob Funmi Ogunmola has died. JFO-who owns Glass House Hotels in Abule Egba area of Lagos was the candidate of Accord party for ATISBO/Saki East/Saki West federal constituency of Oyo state in the scheduled February 25, 2023 election. Ogunmola was a known businessman with good investment in the hospitality industry and later delved into politics. He was the Chairman of ATISBO local government during late Governor Ajimobi's administration. According to reports, he died few hours after attending a function in Saki, Oyo state. He was aged 51.
It was said that he breathed his last as he was being moved to Lagos from Saki. A source said that he had just finished a programme in Saki when he suddenly complained of not feeling well. Arrangements were being made to move him to a specialist hospital as the situation was getting out of hand - but he didn't make it, the source who suggested Ogunmola said.
In Lagos, his hometown, Ago-Are and across the Oke Ogun region of Oyo state, the late JFO was a known philanthropist and a supporter of good causes. It was a major factor that helped his political career. He had to decamp to the Accord party to pick the House of Representatives ticket after failing to achieve such in his former party, APC. The news of his sudden death has thrown a lot of his family, friends, followers and beneficiaries into mourning - since it broke this morning.
Curiously, the politicians mysterious death leaves much to to question as he only recently accused some unnamed individuals of plotting to kill him. In a video posted on social media, he publicly said some people even sent assassins after him. He questioned what those he was referring to would gain from eliminating him because of politics. Details of what actually led to the death of Ogunmola who was full of life just hours before his death was reported - are still sketchy. Meanwhile, sympathizers have taken to social media to lament the unfortunate incident, while leading politicians in Oyo state have been releasing condolences to the family of the deceased hotelier.
