Since the news of the death of prominent businessman and popular auto dealer, Alhaji Chief Lanre Rasak Akanni Shittu (Chairman of Lanre Shittu Motors) broke yesterday, it has sent shockwaves across the entire social and corporate circuit. Many people - across the social and corporate circles have been sharing condolence messages, as well as pleasant words about the late socialite. Alhaji Shittu died in Lagos in the early hours of yesterday, Monday, February 27. Sources said the wealthy auto baron battled diabetes before he eventually succumbed to his other underlying conditions. His shocking demise came a month after his 65th birthday. He will be buried according to Islamic rites today at the Vaults and Gardens in Ikoyi Lagos by 1pm. We gathered that the family will be hosting the 8th day fidau prayers for the deceased businessman well-loved by many.
Alhaji Shittu was a well-known figure in the automobile business world and started his auto business in the early 1980s. His business began in the Alaka area of Lagos, which was then a popular auto hub on Western Avenue (Fundo Williams Avenue). His company Lanre Shittu Motors Nigeria Ltd was known for providing imported certified second-hand cars in the market. As the business expanded, they started to accommodate the dealership of brands like Toyota and Peugeot. A few years ago, the late Shittu diversified into the marketing of construction equipment, Mack heavy-duty trucks, and Yutong long busses. He later set up an assembly facility for JAC trucks in Lagos. The Lanre Shittu Group also has investments in the real estate and agricultural sectors of the economy. He was a colossus in the in the automobile business in this part of the world and was well known for his great finesse and charisma. He was friend to a lot of the 'Big Boys' who have rocked the Lagos social scene for about four decades now. A toast to most of the big musicians in the southwest - particularly K1 de Ultimate who did a special dedication to him in his hit album American Tips, Lanre Shittu was a big player on the social scene.
The late Lanre Shittu is survived by lovely children children from the beautiful wives he was married to. Oyinda Ebunoluwa Shittu is the youngest with three kids for the late auto Mogul. Lanre Shittu lost one of his wives in the UK about five years ago, which made him cancel plans to celebrate his 60th birthday.
