It was a carnival lit up by the graceful presence of the high and mighty in Nigeria yesterday at the grand 80th birthday celebration of the Iyalode of Lagos, Chief Mrs Bintu Fatima Omosefe Tinubu, which held at the Eko Hotel and Suites, VI, Lagos. The massive array of dignitaries joined the children (including Adewale Tinubu, the CEO of Oando PLC) grandchildren and great grandchildren, as well as extended family members and friends - to celebrate their matriarch as she hit octogenarian age.
Iyalode Tinubu, the matriarch of the Tinubu family, is an influential, successful businesswoman and notable philanthropist who, along with her biological children and grandchildren, has nurtured a legion of adopted children and siblings. She is the stepmother of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who had paid her a special visit (earlier in the day) to celebrate with her on her big day. A retinue of big men and women who are friends and associates of Mama’s children were all out to celebrate with Iyalode Tinubu.
At 80, Chief Mrs Tinubu is an embodiment of grace and fortune. She is so agile, full of life and looks nothing close to a woman who just joined the octogenarians’ club.
The grand party yesterday lived up to all expected billings. The biggest names in the events industry took charge of things. Governor of Lagos state, Mr Babajide Sanwoolu did the toast at the reception, while the King of world beats, King Sunny Ade was on the bandstand.
Dignitaries at the classy party include; Gov Babajide Sanwoolu and his wife, Ibijoke, Gov. Dapo Abiodun and his wife, Bamidele, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, Mr Femi Otedola, Sen. Gbenga Daniel and wife, Yeye Olufunke, Sen. Bukola Saraki and wife, Toyin, Aare Razak Akanni Okoya and wife, Dr. Folashade, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat and wife, Oluremi, Sen.
