On Friday August 18, the Chatered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN), Lagos State branch held its 2023 ‘Bankers’ Nite’. The colourful event held at the Balmoral Hall, Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island , Lagos. It was a black tie event and Lagos bankers, irrespective of their age, turned out in big numbers- all glammed up in good outfits. It was a nite of fun and networking for attendees. The event kicked off with a cocktail session, which was then followed by the main event for the evening.
Themed ‘Exchange Rates Unification: Glocal Implications for Households, Organisations, and the Country’, the 2023 Bankers’s Nite was attended by past branch chairmen of the association, the present chairman , Mr Adeyemo Aina Adeoye FCIB (who delivered the welcome address), his vices, Mr Akinwunmi.M. Lawal and Dr. Mrs Abosede Ogundimu FCIB (Chairman Bankers’ Committee), as well as executive committee members and invited dignitaries including Hon. Oluyinka Ogundimu (Chairman, Appropriations Committee, Lagos House of Assembly). Also in attendance was the MD/CEO of Parallex Bank, Mr Femi Bakare.
A major highlight of the evening was the lecture delivered by the President/ Chairman of the council Dr Ken Opara Ph.D, FCIB. He dwelt extensively on how buying and using made in Nigeria products can help strengthen the naira. He also debunked the story that the Lagos branch of CIBN does not support the floating of the naira.
The Managing Director of Coleman Wire & Cables, Mr George Onafowokan was the chairman of the occasion. In his speech, he shared the interesting story of how his company became the leading brand in Nigeria and Africa with over 800 workers after toking over a negative balance sheet in 2001.
There was also a presentation of award to the association's best Banking and Finance student from the University of Lagos and the University of Science and Technology (Yaba Tech). It was indeed a night of merry as guests at the party were serenaded with good music from the Shugaband. See more photos from the event below...
