We Can Find Money For Destruction, But No Money To Build Schools, Roads -Oscar Doe

Hits Prez For Approving GHS15.6b Financial Sector Support Fund For Ofori-Atta

Chairman of Doscar Group Holdings, HRH Oscar Yao Doe has hit out at President Nana Akufo-Addo for approving a GHS15.6 billion request by the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta to support the financial sector. The amount, as the minister claimed, is to protect depositors and investors of the failed financial institutions as well as improve the liquidity of the sector.

Reacting to the news of the approval of the funds by the President this evening, HRH Oscar did a short, sarcastic but deep-meaning post on social media where he expressed his disappointment. He expressed his shock at seeing a government who could not raise funds for construction of roads, hospitals and schools, releasing such amounts to clear a mess it created by itself.

The purported banking sector clean up excercises carried out by the Bank of Ghana and the Security and Exchange Commission started in 2017 and it saw the collapse of over 400 financial institutions.

The Finance Ministry headed by Hon Ken Ofori-Atta, had gone ahead recently to request the amount it claimed will give the necessary support the sector requires to bounce back on its feet and be stronger. This was after spending over GHS 21 billion on the 11 indigenous commercial banks whose licences were revoked.
