Funke Femi Adepoju, LWRC Boss: The Woman Making Sure Lagosians Gets Only Safe Water


Her major task is to ensure that Lagosians have access to safe water only. Mrs Funke Femi Adepoju is the Executive Secretary and Chief Executive of the Lagos Water Regulatory Commission. Appointed into office in November 2019 by Governor Babajide Sanwoolu, the seasoned administrator with impressive track record of excellent service delivery, has not lived below expectations and her era in the agency is already receiving accolades.
Speaking on her mandate at LWRC, she said "I head the Water Regulatory Commission. We give borehole drillers license, water and wastewater license, borehole permit, water use permit; all aimed at environmental sustainability with emphasis on economic regulation where investor and consumers are protected. The commission supritends over public and private water, as well as wastewater"
"Untreated effluent is discharged indiscriminately into water bodies. Private estates and commercial facilities and many more polliting water with recklessness abandon. Our lives matter. The lives of Lagosians matter. As a responsible government, this administration is committed to ensuring access to water, quality of water, quality of service by Providers and willingness to ensure financial viability of investors", Adepoju said.

Since she assumed office she had engaged operators and stakeholders in the water business sector in the state, at different times, acknowledging the importance of water to the health of all human beings, and affirming the state government’s determination to ensure that the table water producers adhere to stipulated rules and regulations.

Her commission has also been checking the activities of unscrupulous individuals who neither abide with the necessary guidelines nor show concern about the implications of non-compliance on the health of consumers in the name of making profits.

Born on 25th September, 1969, she holds a Bachelor of Arts (B.A Ed.) English, Masters in Education Management (M.Ed) and Masters of Business Administration (MBA) from the Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo and University of Ilorin respectively. Mrs Adepoju is also an alumni of the Havard University School of Government, USA.

Prior to her current appointment, Mrs Adepoju had served in the Ministries of Agriculture and Cooperatives, Economic Planning and Budget (MEPB). She was part of the team that started the processing of the admission of Lagos State into the 100 Resilient Cities in the Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget.
In July 2016, Mrs Adepoju was deployed to Lagos State Urban Renewal Agency as Secretary/Head of Administration and Human Resources and she was posted to the Ministry of Environment as Deputy Director, Administration and Human Resources in 2019.

Mrs Funke Femi Adepoju is the daughter of prominet Lagos politician, Cardinal James Odunmbaku. She is married and blessed with children.
