Until news of his arrest last week made big headlines, Oluwasegun Bolarinwa's name had been on the lips of many for some controversial reasons with his real identity shrouded in secrecy. At a point, some said he was an ex Aide-De-Camp (ADC) to former president Oluwasegun Obasanjo. He creates scenes anywhere he goes. He has been identified as an influential politician with connections as well. He moves around with a convoy of at least five cars, and a retinue of aides (some of who are sometimes dressed in military gears). His arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for an alleged N270 million fraud and the revelation that he is a fake military General, has finally answered the question about his identity.
Bolarinwa was arrested at his house in the Alagbado area of Lagos State last Wednesday by the operatives of the Lagos zonal command of the commission. He is accused of making false representations to Kodef Clearing Resources (complainant), that President Muhammadu Buhari had shortlisted him and one other to be appointed as the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), and, thus, needed a short grant “to press and process the appointment. He was also said to have forged a letter of appointment as COAS purportedly signed by the President and showed the same to the victim to further prove his claim. Six pump action guns, three cartridge bullets, a swagger stick and several forged documents were recovered from him.
Meanwhile, the news of Bolarinwa's arrest gladdened the hearts of many who have had problems with his actions and activities. Report said he has oppressed a lot of people with his supposed army General powers. Many people around his area have had enough of his excesses.
During the #EndSARS crisis in 2020, his video where he was alleged to have shot one youth in Abule Egba area of Lagos went viral with many calling for his prosecution for the crime. He disappeared from the public for some months after the incident. Much have not been heard of him until the news of his arrest hit town last week.
