In the league of Nigeria's greatest businessmen currently, Dr. Taiwo Olayinka Afolabi will take a front row. He is that big! Although not given to publicity, his worth speaks volumes. This business baron attained the diamond age yesterday and no big noise was made about it per se. He however had an exclusive private banquet in London last night to mark the occasion.
Born a twin (with his brother, Chief Kehinde Afolabi) in Ondo town to the family of Chief and Chief Mrs Samson Afolabi, natives of Idokunusi Ijebu of the Ijebu East Local Government, Ogun State, Dr. Afolabi established SIFAX in 1988, and has developed it into an international conglomerate and about the most formidable player in the logistics sector in Nigeria. It also owns Nigeria's foremost aviation ground handling company, Skypower Aviation Handling Company Limited.
Dr. Afolabi serves as the Group Executive Vice Chairman and CEO of Sifax Group and the Chairman, Mac-Folly Hospitality which has become an industry leader with the launch of the 250-room Marriott Hotel, Ikeja GRA,Lagos last year.
He has also successfully forayed into the financial sector with the establishment of Sky Capital and Financial Allied International Limited, a financial services and investment firm and has already acquired banks in Gambia, Guinea and Sierra Leone.
Dr Afolabi is Chairman, Board of Trustees of the Association of Nigeria Licensed Customs Agents, (ANLCA). A moderate socialite, he is a philanthropist per excellence. He is happy husband and dad. Music star, LAX is one of his sons.
His twin brother, Chief Kehinde Afolabi is an accomplished businessman as well, blessed with good family and children too. He is also a big player in the hospitality business. He owns Ken-Dallas Hotel, a 3-star hotel located in Ikotun area of Lagos. Kehinde Afolabi is more of a socialite than his twin brother and he is well-loved by many. They both share a very strong bond.
