A grand plot to contest the Ogun state Governorship election in 2027 is the deft motive behind the move by serving Lagos West Senator, Olamilekan Ademola (Yayi) who is currently trending following his declaration to run for the Ogun West senatorial seat in next year's poll. The move is a key step to actualize an ambition he had been nursing for years, CityScoop has learnt from multiple trusted sources. In fact, he had earlier privately written to few eminent indigenes of the state (including a former governor who served two terms) about his Gubernatorial ambition before the 2019 elections.
It was intrigues that later played out (within the APC) that made him recontest the Lagos West seat in 2019 on the direction of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu. He has finally threw his hat into the ring, with his political eyes on the main target in 2027. Sen. Adeola is fully done with Lagos this time and he is not hiding it. In February, he gave what appeared to be like a parting gift to his people in Lagos when he doled out cars, machines, cash and other materials (in the region of billions) at what could be the biggest empowerment programme by a Lawamaker in Nigeria at the Police College grounds in Ikeja.
In an interview with The Nation over the weekend, Yayi said explicitly of his new mission to Ogun state.."I will want to state this very clearly, I am not from Lagos. Yes, I have been in Lagos all these while and I currently represent the wonderful people of Lagos West Senatorial District. But I am from Ogun State. I am from Yewa in Ogun West Senatorial District and my roots are in Pahi, Ago Isaga. I was a two term member of the Lagos State House of Assembly. I was a member of the House of Representatives and currently in my second term in the Senate. Now, I have decided to return back home and serve my people in Ogun West Senatorial District of Ogun State. I am returning to my roots. The decision to go back home and serve my people didn’t start overnight, contrary to claims in some quarters. It is the outcome of something that has been on for over twelve to fifteen years."
He also said,"I am determined to contest and win the Ogun West Senatorial seat now more than ever before. I strongly believe and feel that there is need for me to do this now at this point in time. My first attempt to return back to Ogun West from Lagos was in 2012. That was the build up to my attempt to contest for the senate seat of the district in the 2015 general elections. But the then governor had another agenda. So, it was decided that I should return to Lagos.
"I am not returning to Lagos for politics ever again", he expressly said.
Yayi has also declared his support foe Governor Dapo Abiodun' second term bid. He is strategically positioning himself to succeed him in 2027. There is already a grand plot by the Governor to support a candidate from Yewa (Ogun West) in 2027, CityScoop sources revealed. Curiously however, Governor Abiodun has declared support for the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo's presidential ambition against Asiwaju Bola Tinubu who is believed to be Yayi's political godfather. Yayi, a self-professed Tinubu disciple had to bear his own cross at this point to protect his ambition in Ogun come 2027, our source hinted.
"I am for the second term of Governor Dapo Abiodun. I am not going to Ogun state to go and contest for governorship of the state in 2023. I am not against the governor who in my opinion is doing well with the task of governing the state. I cannot find any reason why he shouldn’t be given a second term and I am sure our party leaders and members are pleased with him too", he said in the same interview.
