Mrs. Funke Adepoju has continued to display her burning passion to achieve a better livable in Lagos with safe and clean water in her capacity as the Executive Secretary, Lagos State Water Regulatory Commission, LASWARCO. She made a passionate call for more investment in sanitation, sewerage and clean water supply in the state, which she said are the bedrock for sustainable growth. Speaking during the 3rd edition of Lagos International Water Conference held on Thursday, June 30, 2022 at Eko Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos. Funke, daughter of prominent Lagos politician, Cardinal James Odumbaku said it is difficult to imagine achieving SDG II on Sustainable Cities and Communities without also implementing solutions for sustainable urban water management.
“Without proper sanitation, sewerage and clean water supply, there is no livable city. Placing water therefore at the core of the city’s urban planning and investments creates a strong foundation for sustainable growth, it increases chances of developing long-term solutions", she said. She appreciated Governor, BabajideSanwo-Olu for his commitment towards improved access to water and sanitation services.
The Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the Lagos State Commissioner, Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tunji Bello also made presentations at the two-day conference.
Mr Christopher Gasson, the Chairman of Global Water Leaders Group, who was the Keynote Speaker said for Lagos to close the gap in the provision of water supply, there must be a concerted effort and effective policy in place to attract both local and foreign investment. He said if Lagos could capture all the money currently spent on pure water sachets in the state, it would be the richest and best-performing government in terms of utility in Africa.
