News of the death of Professor Lai Osho has sent the media world into shock on Sunday morning. The erudite media scholar, according to available reports, died in a car crash yesterday evening around the Ijebu axis of the Lagos-Benin-Ore expressway. He was 67 years old and just three years to his retirement.
The late Dr. Lai Oso is a Professor of Mass Communication at the School of Communication, Lagos State University. He was the Dean of the school between 2011 and 2015. He is the current President, Association of Communication Scholars & Professionals of Nigeria (ACSPN). He was also a famous lecturer and don at the Mass Communication department of Ogun State Polytechnic (now Moshood Abiola Polytechnic) Abeokuta. He trained and nurtured many media practitioners who are doing well today.
He educated at the University of Lagos (B.Sc. Mass Communication), Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife (M.Sc. International Relations) and He obtained a Ph.D degree in Mass Communication as a Federal Government scholar at the University of Leicester, England in 1977. He has worked as a Reporter, both in Radio and the News Agency of Nigeria. He has taught courses at both undergraduate and post graduate levels. He has taught courses in Journalism, Media and Governance, Political Communication, Development Communication and theory.
He has also published in these areas.
